Handover to Vattenfall of jetty in IJmuiden for construction and maintenance of Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm
On Thursday 10 June 2021 the jetty that will be used for the transport of staff and equipment during the construction, and operation and maintenance phases of the Hollandse Kust Zuid offshore wind farm, which is located approximately 20 km off the port of IJmuiden, was officially handed over to Vattenfall. Located right next to Vattenfall's new operations and maintenance hub, which is currently under construction, the jetty has space for three Crew Transfer Vessels (CTVs) that will transport personnel and small equipment to the wind farm. The three CTV spaces are each equipped with a crane, which can also be used for training purposes. The jetty was developed and commissioned by Port of IJmuiden N.V., together with De Boer & De Groot Civiele Werken.
On 1 July, Vattenfall will start installing the first foundations for the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm. During the construction phase, which is expected to last two years, Vattenfall will operate a temporary site office in IJmuiden. The office is the base for planned and unplanned maintenance operations and is also used to supervise the construction work and progress offshore. The Vattenfall team will regularly go out to sea to attend and supervise the construction activities, making use of the new jetty. The daily transfer of personnel and equipment is provided by Windcat Workboats from IJmuiden. The first Vattenfall employees have already moved into the new location.
After the Hollandse Kust Zuid wind farm has been fully commissioned in the spring of 2023, Vattenfall's Operations & Maintenance (O&M) organization will take over the management of the wind farm and ensure efficient operation from the Port of IJmuiden and carry out planned and unplanned maintenance works. The O&M organization will make use of a new operations and maintenance hub that is currently being developed and commissioned by MSCY Vastgoed B.V., the real estate branch of Port of IJmuiden N.V., and constructed by Friso Bouwgroep. Construction of the new maintenance hub is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by early 2022. When the wind farm is fully operational, the new hub will house about 25 permanent employees and, depending on the season, up to 60maintenance technicians. Therefore, the arrival of Vattenfall to the port of IJmuiden will create lots of employment opportunities.
Erik Hiensch, Vattenfall's Director of O&M Offshore: "The timely delivery and commissioning of the new jetty and temporary office location are some great first results of an intensive and long-term collaboration between Vattenfall and the Port of IJmuiden. We will remain active in IJmuiden for several decades for the operation and maintenance of Hollandse Kust Zuid, and we look forward to our further cooperation in the future.”
