Amsterdam-Noord is an urban district covering an area of nearly 6,000 hectares, with 87,000 residents. It combines the rural and economic aspects of the city of Amsterdam and is situated on the north bank of the river IJ. There are excellent connections by road (A10) to Schiphol Airport, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht.
There are several large industrial areas. In the nearby future (five-ten years) some of these area’s will be transformed. Projects are in progress to create a variety of residential, working and cultural environments on the northern riverbank, with the planned eye-catching museum of cinematography in Overhoeks. MTV-Europe and ID TV are already based in the city district. In the western part some plots are available for distribution/ transport industries and building. The Council of Amsterdam North focuses further on multimedia industries.
